| My guess is that this radio is rare, although of a fairly common genre. It was apparently marketed by Montgomery Wards (circa 1926). Via the Internet I've seen a couple of photos of Airline Enchanters that have built-in speakers, and one photo of the version that doesn't. I bought this radio at an antique mall in Abilene, KS in October 2005. The speaker that's pictured, also bearing the Airline label, came with it (as did a complete tube complement). Likely the set and speaker originally were purchased together. As no schematic for the Enchanter was available on the Internet, it took some detective work (and the help of Willis Watkins) to reverse-engineer the wiring arrangement. To my delight, when I hooked it up to a power supply it worked just fine (and still does). |
